Aurel Aebi from atelier oï’s talks about the design process behind POI.
“We basically explored how to get from a chair to an armchair”, explains Aurel Aebi regarding the approach he and his colleagues Armand Louis and Patrick Reymond from atelier oï followed when designing POI. While experimenting on its ultimate shape and how it would interact with the surrounding space, it became clear that POI “should more than just what you need”. That is why the armchair offers a lot of free space and room, as you sit unencumbered on a spacious seat.
“The basic idea was how to get from chair to armchair,” explains Aurel Aebi of the approach he
and Armand Louis and Patrick Reymond, his colleagues from atelier oï, adopted when developing POI. When tinkering with the desired shape and its effect in the room, it became obvious that POI should be “more than you need”. For this reason, the armchair provides plenty of space, because you sit openly in the room on a generous seat.
